How to choose a battery-powered GPS tracker
A battery-powered GPS tracker runs on its own battery. It is useful when a permanent connection to a vehicle’s electrical system is impractical or unnecessary. Decide whether you need frequent location updates, periodic reports or movement alerts.
Battery life and location updates
Battery life depends on the model, battery, settings and operating conditions. More frequent positioning and data transmission generally use more power. Standby time is not the same as continuous tracking time. Check whether the battery is rechargeable or replaceable and review the manufacturer’s stated test conditions.
2G or 4G connectivity, SIM cards and platforms
GPS determines the device’s location, while mobile connectivity sends data to a tracking system. Cellular GPS trackers generally require a SIM card and a data plan. Check the frequency bands of the exact version, network coverage in the country of use and any platform fees. A SIM card or platform service is included only where specified in the selected package.
Magnetic mounting and water resistance
A magnetic GPS tracker needs a suitable mounting surface. Some models require an optional magnetic enclosure. For outdoor use, check the device’s IP rating and the manufacturer’s operating conditions: resistance to rain does not necessarily allow immersion.
GPS trackers and Bluetooth tags: what is the difference?
A Bluetooth tag is different from a cellular GPS tracker. Its location features depend on compatible phones or another supported network. If you need independent location reporting, check that the selected device has GPS/GNSS positioning and mobile connectivity.
Compare individual models
Compare the product descriptions of TK905 4G, Teltonika TAT140 and Monimoto 9. Their intended uses, reporting modes and service terms differ. Assess the specifications of each model rather than battery capacity alone.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
It is a location tracking device with its own battery that works without a permanent external power connection. It can monitor vehicles, cargo or other assets. Location reporting modes and features depend on the specific model.
Battery life depends on the model, battery, location update frequency and operating conditions. Less frequent data transmission generally saves power. Compare the manufacturer’s stated battery life, test conditions and whether the battery can be recharged or replaced.
No. In standby mode, a device may spend most of its time saving power and report its location only at set intervals or when a specified event occurs. Frequent location updates generally reduce battery life. Always check the modes supported by the specific model.
No. Mobile connectivity depends on the model and its version. Check whether the device uses 2G, 4G or another technology, which frequency bands it supports and whether the required network is available in the country of use.
Only if the model or its accessories are designed for magnetic mounting. Some devices require a separate magnetic enclosure. Check the package contents and the manufacturer’s mounting instructions, and attach the device to a suitable surface.
This depends on the specific model’s IP rating and the manufacturer’s operating conditions. Resistance to rain does not automatically mean the device can be immersed. Before outdoor use, check the product description and the requirements for properly closing the enclosure.
These features depend on the model, its settings and the tracking platform. Check the product description for route history, movement alerts and geofence notifications. A device that sends periodic reports does not necessarily provide a continuous route record.
Trackers that send location data over mobile networks generally need a SIM card or integrated SIM and an active data service. Platform or subscription fees depend on the solution. Before ordering, check what the selected package includes and the cost of renewing the service.
A cellular GPS tracker determines its position using GPS/GNSS and sends it over a mobile network. A Bluetooth tag relies on compatible phones or another supported network for location updates. A tag is not a direct replacement for a GPS tracker in every situation.
